What is the difference between bleed, margin, and the cut-line?

It is extremely difficult to print to the edge of a piece of paper. To allow for your design to go all the way to the edge, we print a document that is slightly larger and then trim it down to the required size. This allows for a margin of error and allows the work to shift a bit during the printing and finishing processes without significant visible issues.

Bleed: The area that extends beyond the finished size.

Trim-line: The approximate place where the piece will be cut.

Margin: the safe area for your important text or images.

Pro tips:

Keep your important element well within the margin to avoid being too close to the edge
Pull all background elements past the bleed line to make sure that you don't get a white border around the edge of your piece.
Don't put a thin border close to the margin line to avoid visual skewing.

How do I get a quote?

It might seem strange that we don't put all of our prices online. Here's why:

We grew our business by being involved in our clients lives and actively listening to their needs. A cold price list can't account for all of the variables that you might want to address. There is also the possibility that your goals could be met better with a different solution. We have dealt with all kinds of businesses, and would love to allow our experience to shine on your objectives and goals. Your success is our success!

Give us as much detail as possible. With so many different options available, it's good to know as much as possible
Let's work together to find the best solutions. We might ask you more questions and offer you options you hadn't thought of before.

I need a print job done last minute. Can you help?

We get it because we have all been there. It's 2 o'clock on a Friday, your event is tomorrow and you forgot the stage banner. Here at Quality Printers your problem is our problem. We would rather have a well thought out and planned project because it just goes smoother but if you are in a crunch call us up, we love being able to swoop in and save the day.

Please keep in mind:

Not all printing processes can be turned around same day
We cannot do the impossible, but we are pretty good at sprinting
If it's just not possible, we will tell you upfront and offer whatever secondary options might be available

What are my paper options?

When it comes to paper there are so many options out there that we try hard not to overwhelm you with option blindness but instead try to match the paper type to the purpose of your project. For those of you who want to make your own informed decisions here is a basic breakdown of the most popular choices and the terms that accompany them.

Stock Types from Thickest to Thinnest:

Card-stock: Rigid cardboard like material with a variety of finishes ranging from high-gloss to matte. Think postcards.
Coverstock: Sturdy and flexible, this material works well for the covers of booklets.
Text-weight: Like the name suggests, best for your basic printed sheet. Comes in a wide spectrum of finishes and weights.

Specialty Papers:

Polyester: Fairly new to the printing world, this material is highly flexible but resists minor bending and can be cleaned. Perfect for menus
Mylar and Acetate: Offering various levels of translucency, these plastic substrates are good for blueprint overlays, screenprinting make-readys and projects involving tracing.

Ultimately, there is a best solution for your needs. We are here to help you figure it out.

Will my color turn out just like it is on my monitor?

We operate on a principle of producing color-pleasing prints as opposed to color-perfect. This does not imply that we don't try our best to match up your exact color. There are a couple of reasons why what you see is not quite what you get.

Different Color Spaces: The RGB color space (what you see on your computer screen) includes 16,777,216 possible color values. The CMYK space (what most print processes use) has 160,000.
Print process differences: Color profiles, brightness of the paper, type of machine, humidity and machine calibrations all play a role in how accurate your color is reproduced.
Monitor Differences: Not all computer monitors are equal and not all monitors are calibrated to the same standards.

At the end of the day, we want you to be happy with the quality of the product you have received. In some cases, for instance if the Print run is going to be rather large, it makes sense to produce a color proof. It might also be helpful to look at your file on different computers to get a sense of how the color might vary and to create in CMYK for most projects.
